Rustling Leaves Games is an indie studio focused on creating emotional, narrative-driven interactive experiences. We’re a small, collaborative team building thoughtful and atmospheric games, and we’re looking for a Technical Engineer to help bring our systems and gameplay foundations to life.

Role Overview

#

As a Technical Engineer, you’ll be responsible for developing core game systems and supporting the team with technical solutions across the project. You’ll work closely with designers, writers, and other developers to implement features such as dialog systems, inventory systems (if needed), save/load functionality, UI systems, and other gameplay tools that help shape our world.

This is a volunteer role, but we strive to create a professional, supportive, and growth-focused environment.

What You’ll Do

#

• Build and maintain core gameplay systems (dialog, UI, inventory, save/load, etc.)
• Implement tools and pipelines to support designers, artists, and writers
• Collaborate with the team to solve technical challenges and improve workflows
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members
• Participate in regular check-ins and communicate progress proactively

What We’re Looking For

#

• 1+ years of experience developing in Unreal Engine
• Strong proficiency in C++ and Blueprints
• Comfortable using Git for version control
• A personal computer that meets the recommended Unreal Engine hardware specs
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Willingness to support team members and share knowledge

Bonus Points

#

• Experience creating custom materials or particle effects in Unreal Engine
• Familiarity with Unreal Engine Sequencer
• Experience developing for consoles (Switch, PS5, Xbox Series S/X)
• Experience with Godot (for potential prototyping)
